Is stress management working for you?

If not, you are not alone. The World Health Organization has labeled stress a "World Wide Epidemic."

Do you have a general feeling of uptightness?

If so, you need better stress management. If you have non-specific aches and pains that defy diagnosis, then poor stress management may be the cause. Even in well-defined diagnosed illnesses, good stress management is a must.

Do you know the cause of your stress?

If you cannot identify your stress, you just "don't feel good" then you need to see a doctor or a health care professional. Symptoms of this type of physical or mental distress are not to be taken lightly.

If, however, you have the source of your stress pinpointed, i.e. It's my boss who's a pain in the neck; or - it's my spouse or the children. This is called the "if only" list. “If only I had more money”; “if only my in-laws didn’t live down the street.” We all have "if only" lists and they cause a lot of psychological and/or emotional stress. Most of these can be overcome with better stress management.

Is there a cure for stress?

Actually, there is no cure for stress because without stress, there could be no life. Stress is the prompter that makes life unfold. In that sense, stress is a positive force. Therefore, if your stress is negative, it is a wake-up call. Heed it! It tells you that there is something in your life that needs correcting. It tells you that you need better stress management.

One way
to overcome stress
in five short chapters

CHAPTER ONE
I walk down the street, there is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find my way out.

CHAPTER TWO
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place, but - it isn't my fault. I didn't make the hole. It still takes a long time to get out.

CHAPTER THREE
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I know it is there. I still fall in. It is a habit. Yet, my eyes are now opened. I know where I am. It is my own fault. I get out immediately.

CHAPTER FOUR
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

CHAPTER FIVE
I walk down another street.
